An Analysis of the Meaning of the Word 打(dǎ) in Chinese for Teaching Foreign Students

The word 打(dǎ)is a word with many meanings and it can be combined with other words to create many new words. This article analyzes the meanings of the word 打(dǎ)based on two dictionaries and one book by analyzing all 26 meanings and categorizing the meanings of the word 打(dǎ)into three main types as follows: literal meanings, contextual meanings and metaphorical meanings. In addition, the word 打(dǎ)is also a common word in textbooks for foreigners. This article explores the word 打(dǎ) used in six Mandarin Chinese textbooks for foreign undergraduate students 汉语教程( Hànyǔ Jiào chãnɡ). It is found that the word 打 (dǎ)is used 23 times. The author analyzes the meanings of the word 打(dǎ) used in the teaching of Chinese language for foreign students from these textbooks and offers fundamental guidance on teaching.
