Abstract

This study aims to examine demand and forms of smart transport and mobility system and recommend guidelines for developing smart transport and mobility system in the prototype area in Eastern Tourism Development Region of Thailand. The study employed a mixed method research approach incorporating both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. The findings revealed that the Eastern Coast Tourism Development Zone or the Active Beach Tourism demonstrated the greatest potential for developing smart transport for tourism compared with other development zones within the Eastern Tourism Development Region. The most feasible transportation route within the study area should be centered in Chonburi Provice, especially Pattaya, due to its readiness in terms of policy support, infrastructure availability, and tourism volume. The proposed transportation routes should therefore originate from or destine at Pattaya, serving as the hub connecting to secondary tourism destinations located along the coastline. The introduction of smart transport and mobility within the prototype area consists of three major strategic initiatives, jointly driven by central government agencies together with public and private sectors in the Eastern Coast Tourism Development Zone including the development of smart transport and mobility technologies, the improvement of smart transport infrastructure and facilities to support tourism activities, and the enhancement of capacity of transport operators and service personnel to adapt to evolving travel and technological contexts.
