The needs of the elderly regarding public transportation in Khon Kaen Municipality

Abstract

The objectives of this research article are to study (1) public transportation welfare of the elderly in Khon Kaen Municipality, (2) problems in using public transportation services of the elderly in Khon Kaen Municipality, and (3) needs for the development of the transportation system. Public facilities for the elderly in Khon Kaen Municipality. This research is qualitative research. The target group is the elderly who use public transportation services in Khon Kaen Municipality, purposive sampling was used to select 15 samples. The instrument used in this research was an open-ended interview. This study analyzed content data and presented it descriptively. The research results found that private public transportation systems do not provide welfare for the elderly due to restrictions on the government's control of public transportation prices. This makes public transportation fares cheap and does not receive support for creating various welfare for the elderly. The problem of using public transportation for the elderly in Khon Kaen Municipality found that the current use of public transportation for the elderly does not provide services or facilities for the elderly, such as unclear symbols of public transportation, safety, and insufficient public transportation services, which makes it difficult for the elderly to use the services and cause confusion. The need for the development of public transportation for the elderly in Khon Kaen Municipality found that there must be development in the routes of public transportation services and the number of services, punctual service, increasing welfare to reduce travel costs for the elderly, developing public transportation to be air-conditioned, and making public transportation symbols more visible.
