Community-Based Water Resource Management: A Case Study of Laloeng Wai Reservoir, Phon District, Khon Kaen Province

Abstract

This research aims to investigate community participation in water management at Laleung Wai Reservoir, Phon District, Khon Kaen Province. The main objective is to explain community engagement in water resource management. The research applied qualitative research methods such as document research, in-depth interviews, fieldwork and focus group. There were 3 groups of key informants: 5 people or members of the water user group, 3 community leaders in the study area, and 4 officials in charge of the Laeng Wai reservoir area, for a total of 12 informants. The research findings reveal that while the community has an understanding of water resource management, they still face the problem that members do not prioritize participating in group or water user organization activities. There is a lack of promotion of activities that would strengthen the organization, which would in turn improve community-based water management efficiency.
