Abstract

The purpose of this study is to compare similarities and differences between Chinese and Thai conjunctions. The study shows that whether in word order, meanings and functions of the conjunctions, there are some similarities and differences. Chinese and Thai conjunctions’ word order and functions are basically the same. However, there are some differences too. For example: in Thai language, some conjunctions can be used to connect verb and noun, to connect noun and adjective, to connect verb and adjective, which cannot occur in Chinese. Some of the Thai conjunctions can be used to present premises, possessions, distinctions, tools, times, comparisons, estimation, state action, while in Chinese they do not exist.
