The Development of Mathematical Communication and Representation Abilities Using a Mathematical Argumentation-Based Learning Model with GeoGebra for Grade 5 Students at Ban Bang Sai School in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province
Main Article Content
Abstract
This classroom action research aimed to 1) develop the mathematical communication and representation abilities of students through mathematical argumentation-based learning integrated with GeoGebra, and 2) study the guidelines for implementing mathematical argumentation-based learning integrated with GeoGebra. The target group consisted of six Grade 5 students at Ban Bang Sai School in the academic year 2025. The research instruments included 1) lesson plans, 2) classroom protocol transcription forms, 3) student work assessment forms, 4) classroom observation forms, and 5) an ability test. The data were analyzed using percentage, mean, and content analysis.
The research findings revealed that 1) the students’ mathematical communication and representation abilities improved continuously. The overall mean score increased from 75.00% in Action Cycle 1 to 79.17% in Action Cycle 2, which was classified at a good level, and further increased to 87.50% in Action Cycle 3, which was classified at a very good level. The results of the individual post-action assessment showed that the students’ scores were at good to very good levels, with an overall mean score of 87.65 percent, which was at a very good level. The students developed their use of mathematical language and symbols, their expression of ideas, and their presentation of ideas more clearly. 2) The guidelines for learning management included using problem situations connected to students’ experiences, using open-ended questions and increasing wait time, assigning clear group roles, encouraging students to use evidence to support their conjectures and arguments, using GeoGebra to verify ideas, and allowing students to summarize ideas in their own words.
