References to Buddhist ideas in the Literary Works of Prince Thammathibet

Abstract

This academic article aims to study the references to Buddhist concepts in the Literary Works of Prince Thammathibet.            The study found that Prince Thammathibet had two purposes in referring to Buddhist concepts: 1) to remind himself and              2) to remind others. This reference to Buddhist concepts as a reminder to oneself is found in literary works such as the Kap Hae Rua and Kap Ho Klong, as well as in literary works such as the Phleng Yao. He referred  to it in order to 1) understand what was happening, 2) give oneself hope and encouragement, and 3) aim to do good things. The use of Buddhist concepts to warn others is found in royal verses, where he instructs them to: 1) make merit for future happiness; 2) refrain from doing evil; 3) reduce one's pride; and 4) be determined. The study also showed that Buddhism is an integral part of Thai people's lives.
