The Use of Imagery in Sadet Praphat Chanthaburi, a Royal Composition by King Chulalongkorn

Abstract

This study examines the use of imagery in Sadet Praphat Chanthaburi, a royal composition by King Chulalongkorn, with the objective of analyzing different types of imagery employed in the text. The study is based on the framework of five types of imagery: visual imagery, auditory imagery, olfactory imagery, gustatory imagery, and tactile imagery. The findings reveal the presence of four types of imagery, ranked from most to least frequent as follows: visual imagery, auditory imagery, gustatory imagery, and tactile imagery. Notably, olfactory imagery is absent. Visual imagery is the most prevalent, as it effectively conveys a broad range of details, including colors, sizes, shapes, positions, and quantities. Additionally, imagery is often combined with comparisons to enhance clarity and create a more vivid experience for the reader.
