"Superheroes in the Real World: A Literary Analysis of Gender and Social Struggles"

Abstract

This article reviewed the short story collection DRAG QUEEN and Other Superheroes by Naphat. Its purpose was to explore issues of gender identity, social struggles, and the redefinition of superheroes in the real world. The study covered general information about the book, its narrative structure, and character analysis, particularly the character “Naph,” who represented the LGBTQ+ community and faced pressures from family and society. The analysis also examined narrative techniques such as non-linear storytelling, symbolism, social satire, and the creation of multi-dimensional characters.

          The findings revealed that the work reflected internal conflicts, the struggle for self-liberation from patriarchal power, and the process of healing childhood wounds. The author challenged traditional notions of superheroes, suggesting that the true power lay in the courage to be oneself and to stand up for what was right. The social value of the work was seen in promoting acceptance of gender diversity, critiquing conservative values, and inspiring readers to discover the “superhero” within themselves. The article emphasized the significance of literature in understanding the complexities of human beings and an open, inclusive society.
