Political Participation of Citizens in Exercising Their Voting Rights to Elect Council Members of the Non Teng Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Khong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province
Abstract
This study aimed to 1. examine the level of political participation among citizens in exercising their voting rights for the election of subdistrict administrative organization council members in Non Teng Subdistrict, Kong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, and 2. identify approaches to promote political participation in the voting process. A mixed-methods approach was employed. The sample consisted of eligible voters aged 18 years and above residing in Non Teng Subdistrict, who were selected using Yamane's formula for sample size determination. Data collection tools included 1. questionnaires and 2. interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis and descriptive writing. The findings showed that:
- The overall level of political participation in voting was high. Among specific aspects, voting activities had the highest mean score, followed by campaign activities, while community participation recorded the lowest mean score.
- The approaches to enhance political participation included: 1. conducting proactive educational activities at the community level, 2. organizing public forums to allow citizens to express opinions and provide feedback on candidates' policies, and 3. utilizing social media to disseminate election information more effectively.
The findings provided insights into strategies for increasing political participation among citizens in voting for subdistrict administrative organization council members, focusing on proactive education, public forums, and social media as key tools for effective information dissemination.
