The Content Analysis Study of TV Dramas on Violence, Sex and Language and Their Rates

Abstract

The  content-analysis  study  of TV dramas on  violence, sex, language and their rates is a qualitative research to analyze the contents of violence, sex and language in four TV dramaseries: Klinkasalong, Mianoi, Baimaiteepidpew and Songnari. The study used the criteria for rating the TV program suitability of the NBTC on Violence, Sex, and Language in 2013 as a framework for analysis. The results of the study were divided into 2 parts as follows:

1) The results of the study of the Klinkasalong  drama series contains the highest number of scenes of violence, sex and language, 9.79 scenes. The second,  Songnari contains the  number of scenes of violence, sex and language, 9.13 scenes.

            2) The analysis of the content of the overall of violence , sex and language showed that the drama of Klinkasalong and Mianoi has been rated at “General Rated” but there is  a content of violence, sex and language more than rated at  “General Rated”. In addition, the drama of Baimaiteepidpew and Songnari has been rated at “Group Drama 13” but there is  a content of violence , sex and language more than rated at  “Group Drama 13”.

            The results of the study reflect problems in both the criteria and guidelines for the rating of television programs by regulators. Rating suitability by entrepreneurs as well as cooperation from the public sector and the audience's understanding of violence, gender, and language.
