Expanding Green Spaces Policy of Pratupa Subdistrict Municipality, Lamphun Province

Abstract

This article forms part of an independent study entitled "Policy Framework for Enhancing Green Spaces in Pratupa Subdistrict Municipality, Lamphun Province." The objective is to analyze the factors that drive the policy and the constraints limiting the expansion of green areas within Pratupa Subdistrict. It also proposes tailored policy guidelines for increasing green spaces in harmony with the area's context. This study employs interviews with key stakeholders, including administrators, community leaders, and representatives from small real estate businesses, coupled with an analysis of documents on sustainable green space management. The principal findings can be categorized into internal and external environment as follows: The administrative context regarding legal reforms and the creation of community engagement mechanisms arises from visionary leadership and effective communication skills. The commitment of the administration to policy development that meets the populace's needs and enhances quality of life is evident. For the external environment, expanding green spaces relies on public awareness, attitudes towards green space expansion, and social capital. This is crucial for fostering sustainable development processes through public and network partner engagement. Promoting awareness involves creating spaces or educational activities that offer economic, environmental, and social benefits, aligned with sustainable development principles.
