LOTUS : THE CONCEPTS, BELIEFS, SYMBOLS, MEANING IN WESTERN AND EASTEM CIVILIZATIONS

Abstract

This article aims to study the Concept and beliefs, symbols, and meanings of lotus in western and eastern civilizations and is a documentary article. The results showed that the lotus is an important flower that has been created concept and beliefs as a symbolic image in many ancient civilizations of the world, including Western and Eastern civilizations such as Egypt. The lotus symbolizes the sun, creative rebirth, cycle of life, and death rituals. The lotus flower was used for healing and in beverages in celebrations and was used in art in architecture, sculpture, and painting. The origin of the lotus flower in Greek civilization comes from the name of the nymph that resided along the river. In Indian civilization, the lotus is a symbolic representation of the Hindu gods. which symbolizes the care of the earth, the sun, the birth of gods and plants, creativity, abundance, and female beauty. In Mahayana Buddhism, lotus means purity without blemishes. In Theravada Buddhism, the lotus symbolizes enlightenment and inner spirituality. which symbolizes the Lord Buddha, the Dharma, the Sangha, the beauty, and purity
