Using digital technology to support government inspection work

A case study of the Government Inspection Division, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment

Abstract

This research aims to study the use of digital technology to support government inspection work. problems and obstacles as well as guidelines for developing the use of digital technology to support government inspection work. It is a qualitative research, gathering data from documents and by using structured interview with 10 key informants. The results found that officials who act to support the Ministry's Inspector General will have a job description that requires them to coordinate with central agencies and area level agencies to join in the inspection area together with the Inspector General of the Ministry. Which when digital technology is applied in operations, there will be more convenience, speedy, and keeping up with the situation. Problems and obstacles in using digital technology to support government inspection work included 1) the computers currently used by agencies are becoming outdated 2) problems arising from the use of digital technology 3) personnel problems that are still Lack of knowledge, skills, and expertise in using digital technology; and 4) the problem of differences in the age range of Government Inspection Division officials. Guidelines for developing the use of digital technology to support government inspection work include: 1) there should be a development plan for digital technology personnel. and training to enhance knowledge about digital technology necessary for operations, 2) developing a database system that uses the same database, 3) developing applications for operations, and 4) additional budgets are allocated to agencies for purchasing computers to replace  old and obsolete ones.
