Problems and Obstacles in Solid Waste Management in Offshore Area: A Case Study of Village No.2, Bang Chan Sub-district, Khlung District, Chanthaburi Province, Thailand

Abstract

This research has two objectives, which are, (1) to study problems and obstacles which are causes from municipal solid waste management in offshore area: a case study of village no.2, Bang Chan sub-district, Khlung district, Chantaburi province, Thailand, and (2) to study the guidelines to increase efficiency and solve the problems of municipal solid waste management in offshore area: a case study of village no.2, Bang Chan sub-district, Khlung district, Chantaburi province, Thailand. The study was qualitative research. Key informants are people who live in offshore village and Bang Chan Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO). This qualitative research collected data by semi-structure interviewing and document research.

            The findings showed that (1) there were 2 factors of problems and obstacles which are causes from municipal solid waste management in offshore village which are inside and outside factors. Moreover, there were the obstacles which are the low budget, lacking of knowledge on proper solid waste management, and the low purchasing price of plastic waste caused the villagers lacked of enthusiasm to sort the wastes. (2) the results of the guidelines to solve the problems of municipal solid waste management in offshore village were the synergy for community development was important, and there should be educate in waste management hierarchy for starting to ending waste sorting. Furthermore, the government should give people an opportunity to participate in investigate and evaluate on municipal solid waste management. Lastly, the municipal solid waste management should be operated according to Community Based Solid Waste Management (CBSWM) guideline that was focus on collaboration of public, private and people to increase the municipal solid waste management in offshore village efficiency.
