The role of Thai military in the fight with the Communists affecting Thai politics from B.E. 2522 to 2534

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to study about the role of soldiers in fighting with communist group that affects Thai politics, to study the decision of soldiers in changing of the policy of fighting with communist group under the political context and to study the format of operation of soldiers in fighting with communist group that affects Thai politics. The method of research mainly used document research. The researcher analyzed descriptive contents according to the objectives of the research. From the research, it was found that the role of soldiers in fighting with communist group is to fight by using peaceful method that emphasizes creating learning process, belief and understanding about democratic regime that affects the political situation to be better. Under such political context, it made the government of General Prem Tinsulanonda to define the strategy and tactics to fight communist group, that aim to create knowledge and understanding that democracy belongs to people and to emphasize building confidence and belief in the value of democratic regime, to promote participation in political activities, to organize the implementation of the role of interest groups, under the order 66/2523 by using format of guidelines of prevention and modifying by promoting legitimate political right and freedom, eliminating influence and all types of criminal groups, to make people turn to support democracy.
