Social Welfare Needs of People with Disabilities in Huai Haeng Subdistrict, Kaeng Khoi District, Saraburi Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to study the level of social welfare needs of persons with disabilities in the jurisdiction of the Huai Haeng Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Kaeng Khoi District, Saraburi Province, and 2) to compare the differences in social welfare needs of persons with disabilities based on personal factors, namely gender, age, educational level, monthly income, and type of disability. This study employed a quantitative research method. The sample consisted of 155 persons with disabilities under the care of the Huai Haeng Subdistrict Administrative Organization. The research instrument was a questionnaire with a reliability coefficient (Cronbach’s alpha) of 0.923. The data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and one-way ANOVA. The research results found that

1) The overall social welfare needs of persons with disabilities in Huai Haeng Subdistrict were at a high level. When considering individual aspects, two aspects were found to be at the highest level: employment and income, and income security. Five other aspects were found to be at a high level: housing, good health, recreation, general social services, and access to quality education.

2) The comparison of social welfare needs revealed statistically significant differences at the .05 level when classified by education level. However, there were no statistically significant differences when classified by gender, age, monthly income, or type of disability.
