The ageing readiness preparation of the middle-aged adults

The purpose of this research was to study the ageing readiness preparation of the middle-aged adults in Mueang Pak Municipality, Pak Thong Chai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The key informants consisted of the village headman, the village headman's assistant, village health volunteer and representatives of middle-aged adults who are between 40-59 years old, living in the area, including 10 people from snowball sampling. The data were collected by using semi-structured group interview. The results of the study revealed that, 1) most middle-aged adults had a desire to learn about preparing for the elderly for physical and mental health care, financial management residential planning and building social relationships, 2) most middle-aged adults have attitudes and place more emphasis on present lifestyles than preparing for ageing, 3) most middle-aged adults should be encouraged to develop preparatory behaviors for their physical and mental health care and saving money, and 4) guidelines for enhancing preparation before entering old age should be assisted by the government or related agencies to take care of preparation for entering old age.
