The awareness to solve the PM 2.5 dust problem in Chom Jang Subdistrict Municipality, Khilek Subdistrict, Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai Province

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study the capability of local leaders in solving PM2.5 smog problem and 2) study the approach to create cooperation between local leaders, communities and relevant agencies in solving PM2.5 smog problem in Khi Lek Subdistrict, Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai Province. It is a mixed method research between qualitative and quantitative research. The research instruments include questionnaires and interviews. The sample group consisted of 21 local leaders, Chom Chaeng Municipality (Khi Lek) and workers. Content analysis was used. A group of 400 people were interviewed using a questionnaire using Taro Yamane's formula, random sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The research results found that, 1) Analysis of the ability of local leaders to create public awareness found that it was at a high level, with public awareness in solving the PM 2.5 smog problem coming in second, followed by public participation, results from the operations of local leaders, and management ability of local leaders. 2) From the interviews, it was found that local leaders have carried out campaigns to raise awareness among the public, support fuel management guidelines, and promote community participation in forest fire monitoring. There is proactive public relations, government financial support and strict enforcement of the law. Local leaders contribute to effective management and work in an integrated manner across all sectors, raising awareness, systematically managing fuels, and strictly enforcing the law to clearly solve the haze problem.
