Sustainable Development and Community Well-being: The Role of Social Capital and Local Wisdom
การพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืนกับสุขภาวะชุมชน: บทบาทของทุนทางสังคม และภูมิปัญญาท้องถิ่น
Abstract
This academic article examines the interrelationships among sustainable development, community well-being, social capital, and local wisdom as mutually reinforcing components in the process of building enduring community prosperity. It integrates conceptual frameworks from Robert Putnam on social capital, Amartya Sen on human capability and development, Elinor Ostrom on common resource governance, and scholars specializing in community development within the Southeast Asian context. Findings indicate that communities characterized by high levels of well-being and sustainability are typically those that successfully integrate local wisdom with contemporary knowledge, possess strong social capital in the form of trust and cooperative networks, and have effective mechanisms for community participation in decisions affecting community life. The article proposes a holistic community development approach that can be meaningfully applied within the Thai community context, contributing to equitable, culturally grounded, and environmentally responsible development outcomes.
