Development of a Basic Thai Taphon Performance Skill Training Package for First-Year Students in the Music and Performing Arts Education Program, Faculty of Education, Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University

Abstract

This study aimed to: 1) develop a basic Thai taphon performance skill training package for first-year students in the Music and Performing Arts Education Program, Faculty of Education, Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University, with an efficiency meeting the 80/80 criterion; and 2) enhance students’ basic Thai taphon performance skills after using the training package. The sample consisted of 10 first-year students enrolled in Thai Music Skills for Music Teachers 1 in the first semester of the 2025 academic year (B.E. 2568), selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included the basic Thai taphon performance skill training package and a Thai taphon performance skill assessment form. Data were analyzed using percentages, means, standard deviations, and a paired-samples t-test. The results indicated that: (1) the training package achieved an in-process efficiency (E1) of 80.88% and a posttest efficiency (E2) of 82.50%, meeting the 80/80 criterion; and (2) students’ post-training Thai taphon performance scores were significantly higher than their pre-training scores at the .05 level (t = 15.40, df = 9, p = .001). In conclusion, the developed training package was of good quality and can be used as an effective learning resource to improve students’ Thai taphon performance skills, reduce limitations related to instructional time, and promote systematic self-directed practice.
