The Application of the 19th Royal Working Principle : Sufficiency Economy

Abstract

          This academic article aims to analyze and synthesize the application of the 19th Royal Work Principle: Sufficiency Economy. Employing a documentary research methodology, the study examines royal speeches and work principles in the context of the contemporary world characterized by volatility and uncertainty. The findings reveal that the philosophy of Sufficiency Economy is not merely an economic concept or a policy guideline but a “way of life” with profound ethical dimensions. It can be effectively applied at all levels, from individuals, families, and communities to organizations and the state. The core components of the Sufficiency Economy include moderation, reasonableness, and self-immunity, operating under the conditions of knowledge and morality. This philosophy can be interpreted through various philosophical lenses, including relational ethics, the Middle Way in Buddhist philosophy, and virtue ethics in Western thought. Effective application should begin with internal development and extend outward, integrating the values of sufficiency into cognitive frameworks, lifestyles, and development policies in a concrete manner. The article also proposes the S.A.F.E. Model as a new body of knowledge synthesized from the study, serving as a conceptual framework for applying the philosophy of Sufficiency Economy to promote balanced and sustainable quality of life in terms of mental, economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
