Abstract

According to the theory of network-centric warfare, emphasis is placed on coordinated operations, or self-synchronization, which increases opportunities for effective weapon employment, generates combat power multiplication, and ultimately enhances mission effectiveness. A key element of this concept is the creation of situational awareness, which is derived from command and control systems. The development of such systems should be guided by the operational context and user requirements. Operational development should proceed in parallel with system development, accompanied by continuous assessment to determine the level of developmental success. The lessons learned should then be incorporated into subsequent reviews and refinements to improve future stages of development.
