Abstract

Submarines have been employed for military purposes in a serious and systematic manner for approximately the past 150 years. Their primary capability lies in stealth, which provides submarines with a significant advantage over other types of naval forces. Ongoing technological advancements continue to offer substantial opportunities to enhance submarine capabilities, thereby shaping the nature of future naval warfare. These developments include advancements in submarine propulsion systems, underwater digital communications, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in submarine operations, as well as the development of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and small-sized submarines. Notably, these technological advancements remain focused on strengthening the core stealth capability of submarines. As a result, submarines will continue to function as stealth weapons that are difficult to detect and track, and undersea forces will remain a critical component of future warfare.
