Summary of the Academic Seminar on the 100th Anniversary of the Passing of Admiral Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse: Continuing His Legacy.

Abstract
On 19 May 2023, the Royal Thai Navy commemorated the centennial anniversary of the passing of Admiral Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse, Prince of Chumphon. Moreover, on 13 July 2023, the 130th anniversary—marking thirteen decades—of the 1893 Franco-Siamese Crisis (R.S. 112) was observed. In recognition of his benevolence and his enduring contributions in establishing the foundational structure of the Royal Thai Navy, a series of commemorative activities was organized.
As part of these efforts, the Naval Education Department convened an academic seminar entitled “The 100th Anniversary of the Passing of Admiral Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse: Sustaining His Vision and Legacy.” The seminar sought to consolidate scholarly perspectives on the contemporary historical milieu during which Siam (present-day Thailand) confronted a highly dynamic global security environment, undertook the complex transformation toward a modern state as a means of safeguarding national survival, and engaged with the broader implications of global security challenges. In addition, the discussion aimed to provide analytical insights relevant to Thailand’s current security posture within an increasingly interconnected and volatile international system.
