A Strategy in Development of Moral Ethics for Ethnic Muslim Societies Through the Way of Ulama’ Nusantara

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1. to examine approaches for developing Islamic morality and ethics for Muslim societies based on the methods of the Nusantara scholars, and 2. to investigate strategies for developing Islamic morality and ethics for Muslim societies according to the perspectives of the Nusantara scholars.

The findings revealed that: 1) The holistic approach to developing Islamic morality and ethics of Nusantara scholars is a harmonious integration that takes into account the physical, spiritual, intellectual, and behavioral dimensions. 2) The strategies for developing Islamic morality and ethics proposed by Nusantara scholars or scholars in ASEAN countries can be classified according to their components as follows: (a) strategies related to external bodily actions, (b) strategies related to the mind and intellect, and (c) strategies related to manners and etiquette. Recommendations: The development of Islamic morality and ethics for Muslim societies should apply the approaches and strategies of the Nusantara scholars, emphasizing the integration of mind, intellect, speech, and physical conduct.
