The needs of the elderly regarding public transportation in Khon Kaen Municipality

Abstract

The objectives of this research article are (1) to study the physical and mental self-care of the elderly socially dependent, and (2) to find a guideline for self-care of the elderly socially dependent in Ban Sila area, Sila sub-district, Mueang district, Khon Kaen province. This research is qualitative research. The target groups were specifically selected as follows: 1) socially distant elderly people, 2) family members of socially distant elderly people, 3) community leaders, and 4) sub-district public health volunteers, totaling 15 people. The instrument used in this research was an open-ended interview. This study analyzed content data and presented it descriptively. The research results found that Physical self-care, there was eating healthy food and cooking by themselves, having regular health check-ups and exercising. The study of mental self-care, there was going out to do activities with friends, using Dhamma to help calm the mind, and listening to music to relieve loneliness. Guidelines for self-care for socially attached elderly people found that relevant agencies, public health volunteers, and sub-district health-promoting hospitals should provide advice to socially attached elderly people on self-care, health check-ups, accident prevention, creating a suitable environment for the elderly or having equipment to prevent accidents, providing advice on nutrition, and having activities or parks within the community as exercise areas for the elderly.
